For more than three decades, Jane Stoudt has stepped into organizations where the accounting needed more than routine bookkeeping.

From outdated software and years of miscategorized transactions to multi-location nonprofit accounting and financial systems that had outgrown the organization, the challenge has often been the same: understand what went wrong, rebuild what isn't working, and leave behind a financial system people can trust.

These examples represent the kind of accounting reconstruction and systems work that became the foundation for Ledgered.

THE LEDGERED METHOD™ IN ACTION

CASE STUDY 01

Legacy DOS System → Modern Manufacturing Accounting
Manufacturing | Accounting System Conversion & Reconstruction

The Situation

A manufacturing company was operating with a legacy DOS-based accounting system that no longer met the organization's needs. Moving to QuickBooks wasn't simply a matter of transferring balances, the accounting environment needed to be reconstructed while preserving historical financial information and accommodating the company's specialized manufacturing requirements.

The Work

Jane rebuilt the accounting structure in QuickBooks using the company's historical DOS records as the foundation.

Because standard QuickBooks functionality did not readily accommodate all of the company's manufacturing-cost requirements at the time, she worked directly with QuickBooks to develop an accounting structure capable of supporting the company's operational needs, including tracking manufacturing costs at the product level.

The project required more than software implementation. It required understanding how the company operated and designing the accounting around those operations.

The Outcome

The company moved from an outdated DOS environment to a modernized QuickBooks accounting system structured around its manufacturing operations, creating a stronger foundation for financial and product-cost information.

Ledgered expertise demonstrated:
Legacy-system conversion • Financial reconstruction • QuickBooks implementation • Chart-of-accounts design • Manufacturing/cost accounting • Accounting-system development

CASE STUDY 02

15 Locations. 15 Bank Accounts. One Financial System.

Nonprofit | Multi-Location Accounting Transformation

The Situation

A nonprofit operating across 15 locations was using accounting software originally designed for a school environment. Each location maintained a checking account, while donor information was being tracked through decentralized Excel spreadsheets.

The organization also lacked comprehensive accounting policies, procedures and training documentation.

The Work

Jane transitioned the organization to QuickBooks and redesigned its accounting processes to better accommodate its nonprofit structure and multi-location operations.

She streamlined financial processes, developed accounting policies and procedures, created training materials, and established more consistent practices across the organization.

Her work extended beyond the accounting office. Jane also worked with the organization's board to help members better understand and interpret the financial reports they were responsible for overseeing. She subsequently helped the organization prepare for and navigate a state audit.

The Outcome

The organization moved toward a more centralized, documented and understandable accounting environment, with improved processes, stronger financial reporting and greater financial understanding at the board level.

Ledgered expertise demonstrated:
Nonprofit accounting • Multi-location accounting • QuickBooks implementation • Financial controls • Policies & procedures • Board financial education • Audit support

CASE STUDY 03

Years of Misclassified Transactions → Reliable Books

Professional Services | Historical Accounting Cleanup

The Situation

Jane inherited an accounting office in significant disarray. The problems weren't limited to bookkeeping entries: the filing environment needed reorganization, the chart of accounts needed updating, and several years of purchases and payments had been categorized incorrectly.

The Work

Jane reorganized the accounting records and filing structure, reviewed and updated the chart of accounts, and worked through historical transactions to identify and correct years of miscategorized financial activity.

Rather than simply correcting current transactions, the work addressed the accumulated accounting problems that were affecting the reliability and usefulness of the organization's financial records.

The Outcome

The organization was left with more reliable historical accounting information, a more appropriate chart of accounts, and an organized financial-record system capable of supporting ongoing accounting work.

Ledgered expertise demonstrated:
Historical cleanup • Transaction reconstruction • Chart-of-accounts redesign • Financial-record organization • Accounting-system repair

CASE STUDY 04

Four Sets of Books → Rebuilt Accounting Structure

Multi-Entity Business | Accounting Reconstruction & Payroll Setup

The Situation

Four sets of QuickBooks records contained significant classification and structural problems. Accounts had been improperly categorized, charts of accounts required redesign, and payroll accounting needed to be established correctly.

The Work

Jane reviewed and reconstructed all four sets of books, corrected account classifications, redesigned the charts of accounts, and established the appropriate accounting structure for payroll.

She also developed accounting policies and procedures so the corrected system wasn't dependent solely upon the cleanup itself.

The Outcome

The organization emerged with four better-structured accounting files, corrected classifications, improved payroll accounting, and documented procedures for maintaining the system going forward.

Ledgered expertise demonstrated:
Multi-entity reconstruction • QuickBooks cleanup • Chart-of-accounts redesign • Payroll accounting • Policies & procedures

Different organization. Familiar problem?

Your accounting situation doesn't need to look exactly like one of these.

Maybe you've inherited years of questionable bookkeeping. Perhaps accounts haven't reconciled in months. Your chart of accounts may no longer make sense. Funds or grants aren't tying out. You've changed bookkeepers several times. Or maybe everyone knows something is wrong but nobody knows exactly where the problem began.

That's where Ledgered starts.

We examine the accounting environment, determine what's happening, and develop a practical path toward financial records and systems you can trust.
